This easy hummus recipe has a smokey BBQ flavor that is quite unique!

Bowl of hummus on a plate of veggies.

I have always loved hummus! I have a recipe from a Isreali chef that is hands down the best hummus I have ever made. It is so creamy and delicious.

I wanted to come up with a hummus that is a low fat Trim Healthy Mama E recipe though, as most hummus recipes are a crossover.

I wasn’t going for a BBQ taste originally, but when I had mixed everything together and tasted it, the only thing that came to my head was that it tasted like smokey BBQ chips! It’s definitely a fun flavor.

Do I need miso paste?

I explained what miso paste is in my Miso Salad Dressing recipe post! It’s a paste made from fermented soybeans and gives a salty, umami flavor kick to recipes.

It is optional in this recipe though, since we already have soy sauce which can be used as a substitute for miso paste. Miso has great health benefits though!

How to serve this hummus!

I like to serve hummus with fresh vegetable crudites.

You could also have it with the THM crackers, or use it as a spread on a sandwich!

This may sound odd, but veggie sandwiches with hummus on sprouted or sourdough bread are amazing. Use thinly sliced cucumbers, red onions, spinach, shredded carrots or radishes, bean sprouts, or whatever strikes your fancy! Just make sure you pair it with a protein drink or bar.
