A delicious and creamily sweet smoothie that tastes like dessert in a glass!!

This red velvet cake smoothie is the bomb you guys! It totally tastes like it is way too good to be healthy lol.
I’m constantly being blown away by the absolutely scrumptious sweet things I get to eat. All while knowing they aren’t wreaking havoc on my blood sugar. How cool is it to be able to enjoy delicious treats that don’t leave you with sugar cravings and make life so fun.
As someone with a big sweet tooth I spent years trying to stay away from sugar. I’ll be forever grateful I discovered Trim Healthy Mama and realized a sweet tooth wasn’t something bad. We enjoy the taste of sweet for a reason and just like most things in life, there is a good and a not so good way to go about doing something. Sugar is not so good, but natural sweeteners like stevia, xylitol, monk fruit and erythritol are a fantastic way to sweeten up your foods.
And I’ll be blunt. I get really tired of hearing complaints about the aftertaste of natural sweeteners and how foods with them just aren’t as good. That is totally not true. There may be an adjustment period but once you get used to natural sweeteners they taste just as good to you as sugar.
I have fed sugar free desserts to many people of all ages who don’t even eat healthy, and they have no idea what they are eating is sugar free. Which makes me think that the ‘stevia tastes awful’ complaint is a lot more of a mind thing than a reality.
Find sweet things that you can enjoy
When we make the choice to eat for our health we shouldn’t go around with the attitude that everything is going to taste terrible and we will never enjoy a sweet thing again. That is already setting ourselves up for failure. We should feel empowered that we are taking our health into our hands and determine to find foods that we will enjoy.
Maybe stevia sweetened chocolate cake won’t taste good to you right away. But I bet you can find a Peanut Butter Cheesecake that will knock your socks off! Or how about some Cinnamon Sugar Cookie Dough Bites? Creamy Panna Cotta anyone? Just because you try one or two naturally sweetened desserts that you don’t like, please don’t write them all off! Try different brands of sweeteners and different recipes. Or make your own sweetener blend.

I’ve been on a red velvet kick lately
It all started with my Red Velvet No Bake Cookie Dough Bites. The flavor of those totally blew me away and I’ve become addicted to them lol. That got my brain gears turning. Red velvet smoothie? Red velvet oatmeal? How about a red velvet hot drink? Expect to see more red velvet recipes in the future!
If you have tried my red velvet cookie dough bites and liked them you will love this smoothie! It is the exact same flavor in a drinkable form.
What if I don’t have beet crystals?
The secret to all my red velvet recipes is using beet crystals for the red color. The beet crystals also give a more authentic red velvet flavor in my opinion. You could leave them out and it would still be delicious but with all the red velvet inspired stuff I have coming for you guys, you just need to go buy some lol.
I got my most recent bottle of beet crystals at a farmers market but you can find them at health food stores or bulk food stores.
And I have a dairy free version!
Surprise! I know there are many people these days who have to eat dairy free or choose to eat dairy free. I try to not do much dairy myself since I just find it congesting. And no one needs to be doing cream cheese too often.
So I also came up with a dairy free version of this red velvet cake smoothie! Your welcome.
There is a dairy free cream cheese recipe in the Trim Healthy Table cookbook that uses the combination of oolong and lemon juice to give the cream cheese flavor. I love that recipe so copied the idea for this smoothie.
While it isn’t as decadent as the cream cheese recipe, my dairy free option is still delicious, definitely much more superfoody since it has oolong tea and baobab, and it is also a Trim Healthy Mama fuel pull!
I gave the option of one or two teaspoons of MCT oil in the recipe. While we usually stick to one teaspoon of fat in E or FP meals, since our bodies burn off MCT so quickly, it is ok to sometimes use two teaspoons without it turning into a crossover or S. I like using two teaspoons here to make it a bit more luxurious!
